Last week I read a very interesting article in the Wall Street Journal. They previewed a National Association of Corporate Directors blue ribbon commission report proclaiming that corporate cultures matter in business. WHAT?  You would think that was obvious. So why has it taken so long for corporate boards to notice? Having a high-performance culture isn’t new! Maybe boards of directors just don’t understand what culture means. Culture is a set of shared assumptions about how to think, feel and act. Culture is the way work gets done. Culture is the sum total of behaviors, beliefs and decisions that leadership exhibits to create a positive and conducive business environment that allows positive implementation of the company strategy.

Chick HERE to CREATE A HEALTHY CULTURE OF DEBATE

This past week there has been a firestorm of controversy in regard to President Trump’s lashing out at NFL players who kneel in protest during the national anthem. The reaction is playing out on TV network broadcasts, social media, including Twitter. It is reported that there were as many as 3.8 million tweets on Sunday alone on this topic. It seems we cannot have a civil conversation with friends or colleagues without some debate of who was right, who was wrong, what is the real focus of the protests and the racial divisiveness it has created.

Unless your brand engagement program has a significant budget, it will never make the impact necessary to change your employees’ behavior. Money talks. It is no different for advertising and marketing. So where should the employee branding/engagement budget come from?
